With 1,400 employees, including 153 leaders, Hancock Health is committed to improving lives through exceptional care and service. As the region it serves becomes more diverse, the organization recognized a strategic opportunity to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into its culture, operations, and patient care.
The Challenge
Our Approach
Lead at Any Level partnered with Hancock Health to co-create and launch a tailored DEI strategy aligned with the hospital’s mission of delivering kindness and care to every person, every time. Our work included:
Organizational Assessment: We conducted a baseline assessment to measure both organizational inclusiveness and individual attitudes and behaviors. The survey focused on leaders across the organization and served as the foundation for strategy development.
Strategy Facilitation: Insights from the assessment guided a series of stakeholder strategy sessions to identify meaningful quick wins, set long-term goals, and prioritize next steps.
Advisory Services: We provided ongoing guidance to HR leaders and the Center of Excellence to support execution of the strategy across departments.
Leadership Training: We delivered DEI education and training for the organization’s leadership team to build capacity and buy-in.
Committee Launch Support: We helped stand up Hancock Health’s Diversity Council, ensuring the group had clear direction and support for early success.
Our Results
The newly formed Diversity Council earned board approval for Hancock Health’s DEI Statement, establishing a clear organizational commitment. From there, the Council identified five strategic pillars to guide the work, each supported by a dedicated project plan. With representation from across the hospital ecosystem, the Council is now positioned as a centralized resource to support DEI efforts within the organization and in the broader community.
